Our seniors began life in division 3 with a tough lesson learned.
It seemed smooth sailing in the first half, as our relentless work rate was there to be seen.
Egan started proceedings after getting on the end of a loose ball after a Garvey corner was put into the box. On the 18th minute, we had doubled our lead. Donnelly found the run of Wogan who was aware of Barrett running through. He slipped him in and the Stamullen Skipper buried it to make it 2-0.
The hosts responded with a quick fire goal, however Stamullen upped the ante and got 2 more goals in the space of a minute. Niall Barrett was the quickest to react after Garveyโs shot was only parried away by the keeper and Barrett nipped in to claim a brace for himself.
A minute late, after Egan won the ball in the middle, Walsh showed great awareness to find Donnelly out right who drove at goal to get his name on the scoresheet after his earlier effort was harshly blown for offside.
4-1 up at half-time was a good start. But the 2nd half was a different affair.
Broombridge took the game to Stamullen and got an early goal back. Then a penalty easily dispatched made the game 4-3. With 10 minutes to go, Broombridge made it 4-4 and momentum was with the home team and they made it 5-4 in the 85th minute.
Our seniors rallied and created some opportunities that had been few and far between earlier in the 2nd half, but it was all in vain as we ran out of time and couldnโt get that elusive equaliser.
